This was one of those watches that caught our attention before we fully understood its collector significance.

The first thing you notice is the dial. Its sandy brown sunburst finish changes dramatically with the light, moving through shades of gold, bronze, and tobacco. Combined with the brown ceramic bezel and beige sailcloth strap, it is an exceptionally distinctive color combination.

The 43mm Bathyscaphe also surprised us on the wrist. It feels substantial when first picked up, and we expected it to wear large and heavy. Instead, it is remarkably well balanced. Within a few minutes, the weight seems to disappear, leaving a much more refined wearing experience than its dimensions might suggest.

The story behind the Desert Edition adds another layer. Blancpain drew inspiration from a 1962 diving expedition into Devils Hole in the Death Valley region. It is an unusual connection between desert exploration and diving, and one that helps explain the earth-toned palette Blancpain chose for this special edition.

Only 500 examples were produced worldwide, and this particular example is No. 10 of 500.

For collectors who appreciate numbered limited editions, the unusually early production number makes this example particularly interesting. We have always been drawn to early numbers ourselves, especially those within the first ten, which made discovering the number on this watch an unexpected bonus.

The Bathyscaphe Desert Edition is already an unusual Blancpain. Finding one numbered 10/500 made this particular watch even more memorable for us.
