There is something refreshingly different about the Rolex Explorer II. It has all the presence and build quality you expect from a modern Rolex Professional model, yet it doesn't feel like the Rolex everyone else is wearing.
It feels like a tool watch.
This 42mm black-dial example has a strong, almost industrial character. The brushed steel, fixed 24-hour bezel, and substantial case give the watch real presence, while the bright orange 24-hour hand against the black dial adds just enough color to give the Explorer II an unmistakable personality.
After spending time with this watch, what surprised us most was how well balanced it feels. At 42mm, there is no question that it has presence on the wrist, but it never feels cumbersome. The date beneath the Cyclops is exceptionally easy to read, and the independently adjustable local-hour hand makes the second time zone genuinely useful for anyone who travels regularly.
The black and orange combination may be our favorite part. It gives an otherwise serious, purposeful watch just enough personality without taking away from what the Explorer II is supposed to be.
And unlike some of the more familiar Rolex Professional models, you simply don't see an Explorer II on every other wrist.
There are more recognizable Rolexes and certainly more attention-grabbing Rolexes. But that may be exactly what makes this one so interesting.
It is unmistakably Rolex without feeling like the obvious Rolex.

Condition
Excellent condition. This Explorer II has been well cared for, presents beautifully, and reflects pride of ownership. It appears to have seen little, if any, wrist time. The case, bezel, crystal, dial, bracelet, and clasp present exceptionally well, with no visible marks of note and no visible wear to the bracelet. The watch has been carefully inspected for both condition and operation.
